Our Beautiful Villa at Fatoria di Celle - Close to Figline Valdarno - South of Firenze (Florence) in the Chianti Region - June 7 - 14, 2019

For our first week in Italy, we stayed at an Agriturismo, FATTORIA DI CELLE which is an ancient farmhouse close to Figline Valdarno, on the road going up the slopes of the Chianti hills to Greve in Chianti, in a valley surrounded by woods, vineyards and olive groves.  The road to get there ends at the farm .... we were totally immersed in nature!  And our first night going up the road to find the Villa was an adventure of the mind and body as we made our way up the unfamiliar mountain road, and it was midnight before we arrived.

In the Middle Age the building was a watch tower on the road from the lower Arno valley (Valdarno) to the Chianti Region, the so called “Chiantigiana” road.

Our part of the Villa was located in the main building of the farm ”Fattoria di Celle” overlooking the valley, the lake of the property, in the quiet of the Tuscan countryside.  It was an ideal accommodation for us because we wanted to spend time in an authentic Italian Villa in the heart of Tuscany.

We were so very excited to be at the beautiful Villa, and we took candles and wine out on the balcony, and celebrated the start of our Tuscan adventure!  There was a stillness that was broken only by the sounds of the Tuscan mountain night.

Milan Italy - Wandering through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II Shopping Mall June 7, 2019

After breakfast on our first morning in Milan, we had a few hours before we needed to go to the airport and meet Doug and Barb so we decided to explore Milan.

We headed to the Duomo and this beautiful mall, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.  It is Italy's oldest shopping mall and a major landmark of Milan. Housed within a four-story double arcade in the center of town, the Galleria is named after Victor Emmanuel, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. It was designed in 1861 and built by architect Giuseppe Mengoni between 1865 and 1867.  It is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Milan Duomo

We didn't have time to wait in line to tour the Milan Duomo, but we snapped a few pictures outside.  The detail on the church is amazing as you can see!  This could be on a visit list for the future!
